Economy Archives

The state of California, currently in the midst of a severe budget crisis, is contemplating allowing its citizens to use pot recreationally. In one strange twist of fate, how ironic is it that one of the states missions, namely the “war of drugs”, that has been a drain on the state’s budget costing millions of tax payer dollars in law enforcement salaries, imprisonment and court costs now may turn out to be its salvation.

A California state legislator proposed legalizing the sale of marijuana, stating, legalizing and taxing marijuana would generate more than $1 billion annually for the cash-strapped state.

Tom Ammiano, a California Assemblyman introduced a bill Monday that would legalize sales and possession of the drug for people 21 or older. The legislation would impose regulations and taxation similar to those for alcohol sales. Federal law makes it a crime to possess or sell marijuana, therefore if this measure passed it most assuredly would face immediate legal challenge.

Bailout or Bullshit? You Decide….

American International Group, Inc.

Bailing Us Out or Burying Us?

What ever happen to the free market?? It used to be that is you went into business and it failed, you liquidated and closed your doors. We do not need nationalization of the banks. Let the banks that had poor management, made risky loans and spent money like drunken sailors, fold and let FDIC step in an make the depositors of the failed banks whole.

The federal government needs to read and understand the definition of insanity which is as follows, doing the same thing over and over again anticipating a different result. Our government is bailing these banks out left and right, throwing money, our money, at them hand over fist, infuriatingly enough to the very same people who drove these financial institution into the ground, as very few of these banks changed personnel from their mid-high end management.

So while John Q Public is at home, praying he will have a job to go to tomorrow and his wife is sitting at the table trying to figure out how to make ends meet since she was recently laid off, many of the criminals, ahem…. I mean bankers, are having a blast,  safe in the knowledge that Uncle Sam will continue to squeeze every last dime it can from the already struggling middle class.

Does this sound like the banking system really needed bailout monies to you? Consider the following:

BalancingI’m one of those people who has always tried to avoid anything that smacks of politics because I don’t agree with either side enough to call myself one or the other.  It depends on the issue for me.

When it comes to the Republicans, to me it seems as if they don’t seem to really give a damn about your average American, they’re in it for the big guys and big bucks.  Handling out tax breaks to the ones who need it the least.

When it comes to the Democrats, it looks like they don’t really care about the average American either, they want to save the poor, the indigent, the illegals.  They want to hand out tax money, my hard earned money to people who sit on their asses with their hands out whining “feel sorry for me.”

Sure, there are some people who truly need help and that’s different but to continue to hand out money to able-bodied people who can work but who find it easier to play the government game, no, sorry, stop being damn leeches on society!

With all this money that the current administration is handing out in an effort to stimulate the economy, luckily Obama is demanding some accounting for where it’s going and what it’s being spent on.  How well that is actually going to work out only time will tell.  We can only hope we won’t see the same kind of abuses the banking system and Wall Street has been able to get away with since Bush just handed them billions and let them do with it whatever they wanted.  Yeah, love those trips and bonuses, they sure earned that as the companies deteriorated and continue to deteriorate.

Look What Has Grown from the ACORN

Lady Liberty CriesWhat a great look inside the idiotic mind of a typical ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) thug.

Here is Stuart Varney of FOX Business interviewing Bertha Lewis, Executive Director of the New York branch of ACORN, about the recent invasion of private property by the criminal enterprise… ACORN;

Stuart Varney: Do you think you got a right to these houses?

Bertha Lewis: I think the homeowners have a right to stay in those homes until the administrations plan can be implemented…yes I do.

Stuart Varney: They got a right to the house even though they haven’t paid their bills?

Bertha Lewis: They have been paying their bills…I think it’s a false thing to say that people haven’t been paying their bills.

Stuart Varney: No, their delinquent on their mortgages.

Bertha Lewis: Well, they maybe delinquent on their mortgages but there are people still do that.

Stuart Varney: They haven’t been paying their bills

Bertha Lewis: There are millions of millions of people who are…

Stuart Varney: Doesn’t matter, they haven’t been paying their bills.

Bertha Lewis: Being foreclosed on every day and so we have a plan in place and people need to stay there..

Stuart Varney: What right do you claim to stay in a house that you can’t afford and you cannot pay the bills and what right do you have to get my money to pay for you? I’ve read the constitution, I don’t see that right…

Bertha Lewis: Well, I don’t see the right that banks have to get 700 billion dollars to get bailed out

Stuart Varney: No, no, that’s a different thing…

Bertha Lewis: That’s all part of the same thing…

Stuart Varney: No it’s not…

Bertha Lewis: Every 13 seconds, Stuart, people are getting foreclosed on and they have the right to protect their homes and to protect their communities. It’s the most American thing you can do to protect your community.

Stuart Varney: ACORN is well known for looking at banks and saying “give us a loan,”….they don’t give you a loan so you scream racism you then invade their offices and demonstrate outside the private homes of bank executives, you embarrass the banks and you force them to give you loans on favorable terms, now…those loans cannot be repaid, you will not leave those homes and your claiming a right to stay in them and have a right to my money to make sure you stay in them, again…I come back to it Bertha, they may be be foreclosing every 13 seconds but you have absolutely no right to that house.

Made in China

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear – or – is it that we just do not think?

Made in China

Made in China

While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets, the media wrings its hands and criticizes the government for perceived errors.

Yet 70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.

Well, duh…why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?

SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA !!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says ‘Made in China’ or ‘PRC’ (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do with out. Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter?

If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example, the point is.. do not wait for the government to act.

Just go ahead and assume control on your own.

Think about this, if 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that’s a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor…fast!!

The downside? Some American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory.  Waaahhhhhhhhhh

The Solution?

START NOW – Make a commitment to BUY AMERICAN!  American goods equals American jobs.

New Stock Market Terms

New York Stock Exchange, New York City.

Has anyone besides me noticed that the stock market doesn’t like Obama or his Administration?? The market is down 25% since he won the election and every time he opens his mouth it seems to sink to a new low.

As someone who used to be an active daytrader (currently I am not trading as just about the only way to make money in this market is to bet that stock is going lower, shorting). In any event for those of you that follow the market I would like to take a moment to share with you some new stock market terms, lingo if you will.

CEO – Chief Embezzlement Officer.

CFO – Corporate Fraud Officer.

BULL MARKET – A random market movement causing an investor to mistake himself for a financial genius.

BEAR MARKET – A 6 to 18 month period when the kids get no allowance, the wife gets no jewelry, and the husband gets no sex.

Now I have to tell you, this has been one of my pet peeves for about forever – the abuse of the welfare system and social programs by lazy, do-nothing, pop-out-more-babies, sit-on-your-ass, drugging, drinking wastes of human life!

Welfare and many of the social programs out there should be used only as a stepping stone, a way to get through a tough time, to get back on your feet, but how many people turn them into a lifestyle, sucking on the government tit and being supported by us, the American taxpayer, while they do nothing, forever?

I am sick to death of hearing people whine that they can’t do anything, that they have no skills but they sure seem to know how to get through the red tape to get those government checks so they can continue to sit on their lazy asses.  People who receive disability but pop out baby after baby so they can get more government benefits, benefits on top of benefits. People who have learned how to work the system to squeeze out every red cent.

I admit, I am short on sympathy and long on cynicism.  Take a look around, be sure to open your eyes, and you’ll see it too.

And the government complains about the debt and raises our taxes!

It’s time for a reform, past time for a reform!

A parking lot

I have a different approach to bailing out the American auto makers. While Obama’s administration is busy throwing good money after bad, the big three are still laying off folks and those that are lucky enough to retain employment are hard at work making vehicles that no one can afford to buy, therefore they will sit in the parking lots of auto dealers who will dust them off weekly.

I propose rather than throwing billions at the big three auto makers, the Obama administration issues vouchers to each American family. Limit one per family.

This would be beneficial in a multitude of ways.  First and foremost, the vehicles being made would not sit in a dealership parking lot they would be “sold” to the American public and dealerships would be reimbursed by Uncle Sam once presented for payment.

It would also be beneficial in that many energy inefficient autos would be off of the roads, replaced by fuel efficient, green vehicles.
